In 1998, approximately 5 per cent of prescriptions (by volume and by cost) dispensed in Scotland were for musculoskeletal and joint disorders. The cost of treating arthritis was estimated in 1990 to be approximately 4 per cent of the total UK NHS budget. In the UK, treatment of musculoskeletal disorders formed 6 per cent of hospital expenditure and 15 per cent of primary care and social service expenditure in 1996. OA of the hip affects 10 per cent of persons aged >80 years and has been linked to occupation. OA of the knee is twice as prevalent in women as in men and is increased by female obesity. Therefore, half the arthritic population is under 65 years old. One-third of the arthritic population are middle-aged adults (aged 44-65) and one in six is a young adult (under 44 years). In a recent Scottish survey, half the sampled adult population reported chronic pain and about one-third of those (equivalent to 16 per cent of the general population) gave arthritis (excluding back pain) as the cause. Most sufferers reported “difficulties” in six activities of daily living connected with functional mobility and dressing, while about 2 per cent of the population reported “dependency” in relation to help being required to get in or out of bed, dressing, getting to and using the toilet and getting out of the house. When surveyed, the elderly are inclined to under-report the physical restrictions in daily activities, and hence the importance of arthritis within the population is probably underestimated.Ī large survey in one NHS area using questionnaires and interview assessments reported that 5-8 per cent of the adult population suffered disability associated with an arthritic condition. 6Ī true understanding of the impact of arthritic conditions depends on an interpretation of the meaning and the severity of disability. Approximately one in eight of the adult UK population report themselves to be disabled and almost 50 per cent of these individuals report a musculoskeletal complaint, of which arthritis is the most common. Public health implications of arthritisĪrthritis and its associated conditions are the most frequent self-reported chronic illnesses in Britain. Pharmaceutical care is therefore central to the treatment of these patient groups. Long term outcomes rely on an integration of drug treatment with exercise, lifestyle adjustment and physiotherapy. However for most patients, management of arthritis relies on optimising the use of pharmacotherapy. Surgery and joint replacement offer suitable treatment options for localised joint involvement. The burden of OA management falls largely within primary care services. The high prevalence of OA makes it the most common single cause of arthritic disability in the population, with chronic pain, social isolation and depression contributing to reduced quality of life. Taylor did respond to the controversy a few days after the Times report with a tweet to keep the discussion positive. Strong criticism hit Nichols for only advocating for Black journalists when she didn’t have a personal stake in the outcome. You are not going to find it from me or taking my thing away.” Rachel Nichols If you need to give her more things to do because you are feeling pressure about your crappy longtime record on diversity - which, by the way, I know personally from the female side of it - like, go for it. “I wish Maria Taylor all the success in the world - she covers football, she covers basketball. Nichols’ original comments in July 2020 sparked controversy at ESPN that lingered to Taylor’s departure. She appeared to suggest Maria Taylor had gotten the hosting duties on NBA Countdown because she is Black. On July 4, Kevin Draper of The New York Times reported behind-the-scenes infighting at ESPN in the wake of Nichols’ comments. Remember to lift as you climb and always KEEP RISING ❤️ /ztSIx9CLpO- Maria Taylor July 7, 2021 I’ve taken some punches but that just means I’m still in the fight. Maria Taylor waited a while to respondĭuring the dark times I always remember that I am in this position to open doors and light the path that others walk down. But the controversy served as a reminder that for all the advances made, there’s still a long way to go. Each party said kind words, and the hatchet did not end up buried in someone’s forehead. In the end, Taylor and ESPN parted company with a joint statement, per the New York Post. The network’s on-air personalities divided into pro-Nichols and pro-Taylor camps. Nichols came under heavy scrutiny in the wake of those comments. Those comments inadvertently recorded by Nichols wound up leaked to the media. That assignment came in the wake of a controversy involving ESPN colleague Rachel Nichols’ comments in 2020. She closed her stint at the sports media behemoth hosting coverage of the NBA Finals. She co-hosts NBC’s Prime Plus coverage during the Tokyo Olympics and will also work as a correspondent. Taylor’s contract with ESPN expired, and she made the jump to NBC Sports. After a rancorous negotiation with ESPN, Maria Taylor ended up where she was likely headed all along. The simple truth is the game’s levels don’t actually have the trucks move in a set pattern or fashion, the game hoping you might delight in the chaos of seeing the trucks behave in ridiculous ways. Trucks that go off-track one run or end up totally flipped over will be fine the next, and the player doesn’t actually impact the trucks in any meaningful way to encourage this variation. When the trucks are spawned in at the start of a level, their movement is not consistent. But when you play the game, the developer’s choice of having the physics engine do as it pleases begins to reveal a few flaws in the design. So far, we have a pretty good reflex challenge and speed focused game. Each new level affects the trucks in some unique way, whether it be putting them on uneven ground, attacking them with giant hazards, or making their doom inevitable to force hopping between multiple convoys so the player can keep moving to the end. The main reason why these changes in locale matter is because of how they effect the trucks the player has to hop between. Clustertruck isn’t going for any sort of realism in the concept though, the trucks driving through all kinds of locations on their journey from the start of a level to the end of it, including simple forests and deserts but also taking the trucks to medieval times, a laser filled cyber world, and the depths of Hell itself. Therefore, the in-game character must navigate from the start of a level to the end solely by leaping across semi-trailer trucks. Clustertruck is definitely one of those kinds of games.Ĭlustertruck’s central conceit is that any surface that isn’t a truck will be instantly fatal to the player if they touch it. Some games though just like to design a physics system and essentially let it run amok, the developers hoping the players will enjoy the carnage caused by the way the physics make in-game objects behave. Imprecise physics can lead to glitchy interaction and physics that are incompatible with the gameplay style can bog it down. The physics of a video game world are incredibly important to the feel of the game. That software is wtfast! wtfast uses a custom business-grade network infrastructure that is perfect for your gaming needs. If you're still experiencing jitter and aren’t ready to upgrade your router, you can boost your game by simply using gaming software that offers the network optimisation solution for you. Our friends at ASUS offer dedicated gaming routers with wtfast built-in, giving you peace of mind for gaming without headache. This way, your router can handle all the complexity of finding the best route across the thousands and thousands of potential different connection routes available in wtfast. We suggest finding a router with wtfast built-in. Make sure that the bandwidth capacity is high enough to handle the traffic your household produces. Do some research and check reviews to verify the quality of the router. Look for a powerful router that is fit for your gaming needs. Maybe your router has been there for ages, and it's not working well for your needs anymore. Your router is the heart of your internet connection, so you’ll want to invest in the best here. Doing so can transform your gaming into smooth, no-jitter gameplay.Īnother step is to use a powerful router. You may try and switch to fiber connections, or even just upgrade your connection and increase your bandwidth. Lower internet speed may cause jitter or latency flux, especially when you're sharing it with other people or other devices. Next is to use a high-speed internet connection. A wired connection will prevent fluctuations and lost packets which can significantly improve and lower your latency. This is highly advisable when you are into online gaming rather than using a wireless connection. To resolve this, you should strongly consider using a wired internet connection if you’re not already. So, you can fix your jitter by lowering your latency and more. How can you fix jitter? The main cause of jitter is the difference in the average latency time of your packets. A simple thing like jitter can cause you to lose a game, making your gaming skill completely irrelevant. These sudden spikes in ping may throw off your game, causing you to miss that game-winning moment in games like Genital Jousting. But with jitter, that 45ms might spike to 90ms or even 300ms for a short time, before going back down to your average ping. For example, your average ping might be 45ms. Jitter is the sudden deviation that you get in your ping whenever you are playing online games. The streaming service tends to get movies online quicker than Netflix, and its recent expansion onto new hardware shows that it’s ready to expand from the set-top box. Fandango has just entered into an agreement to purchase Vudu from Walmart, which presents a number of interesting possibilities for the future. Vudu has always been considered the little brother to Netflix. Vudu says the iPad is just the first supported device and other hardware platforms, including Android, are currently in the works. The service does currently work on the device, but it’s not currently optimized for the smaller screen. IPhone users aren’t exactly left out of the phone. This sort of autonomy isn’t possible with the App Store. The company can roll out updates as it sees fit and doesn’t have to deal with the App Store’s approval process when adding new features. Movies purchased on are also available for viewing on the iPad.Īvoiding sharing revenue isn’t the only benefit to the web app. This move to the iPad isn’t all that surprising as the service is now streaming, via the web, to desktops through. It allows for reviews, trailers, and even a wish list. Users will find Vudu’s 20k-strong streaming library accessible through an intuitive interface based around cover art. The tablet-specific web app is already live and ready for consumption. Much like Amazon’s new Kindle Cloud Reader, Vudu can offer all the functionality of a streaming vide app through the magic of Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) without dealing with the App Store and its approval police or revenue tax collectors. Vudu is skirting Apple’s new terms of service that requires sharing revenue. Vudu is streaming movies over a web app, which doesn’t force Walmart to share revenue with Apple. The first task for any band or singer-songwriter is to ask themselves why they think they need a manager. But for artists keen to secure the services of a good manager, finding and choosing one can be challenging. The right manager should have the vision, skills and conviction to take you and your music to a whole new level. In an era when record labels no longer have the money to invest in unproven acts, managers have emerged as one of the best routes into the music industry. Especially with Google on a roll with its recent popular Google Maps, YouTube, and YouTube Capture apps.Few factors can propel a musician’s career forward quite like a good manager. Whether Apple would allow another competing and the arguably better app remains to be seen. You can add Google Music to the Home Screen on iOS devices, but a standalone app would definitely be a welcome addition. While you can download your music from the web, you’re limited to downloading each song only two times. While your music is matched, you can see the progress on your Google Play Music page too.Īfter songs are matched, you can stream your music to your Android device or a browser on your computer. In this case, it’s because they’re restricted due to DRM. It’s telling me that 99 songs can’t be uploaded.Ĭlicking that link brings up a new window that displays which songs can’t go up and why. For example, under the Advanced tab, you can set the uploading bandwidth.Īlso, notice the link under the progress bar. In Music Manager Options, you’ll see the upload progress and can change the settings. A Google Music icon will display on the Taskbar, and you can right-click it to see what’s uploaded and access other options. The process will continue to work in the background while you do other things on your computer. Here I added music from my local drive and Windows Home Server.Īfter selecting your music, kick back and let Google scan and match your tunes. You can check your iTunes, Windows Media Player, or My Music Folder.īut the option I like the best is adding different locations, including network directories. To start using the Google scan and match feature, you’ll need to have a Google Play account and download the Google Music Manager software.ĭuring the install wizard, you have the option to select the location of your music collection. If you have already uploaded high-quality FLAC files - the bitrate will be lowered. Google says it will be replacing files that existing users have uploaded to the cloud too. You don’t need to do anything special if you’re already using Google Music, the feature is just turned on, and you should notice your uploads are happening faster. Still, you’re getting music that’s of similar or better quality than the original from Google Music. However, downloaded files will only have a similar bitrate to the original - iTunes Match gives you a 256Kbps file. The good news about that is, lower-quality files will be streamed back at higher quality. Google Music will stream your matched songs back at 320Kbps, which is a higher quality bitrate than what iTunes and Amazon offer. And we’ll stream your music back to you at up to 320 kbps. We’ll scan your collection and quickly rebuild it in the cloud – all for free. Our new music matching feature gets your songs into your online music library on Google Play much faster. Songs that Google can’t match will be uploaded to your music locker. Google Play Music Manager scans your music collection (including iTunes and WMP Libraries) and matches the songs with its own digital music catalog. Unlike Apple’s iTunes Match or Amazon’s Scan & Match service’s which cost $24.99 a year - Google is giving you the service absolutely free. That process could take days, depending on the amount of music you have. Previously you needed to upload the actual files to your Google Music locker. This will allow you to add up to 20,000 songs to your Google Play music stream a lot faster. Google turned on its free scan and match service for Google Music for users in the US yesterday. The experience demands players land or grind in a very particular way if they want to be successful and get the most out of their efforts. It really reinforces a key tenet from the original OlliOlli: precision. The manual introduces a critical element of risk and reward, daring players to keep a combo going throughout an entire level and punishing those who deliver anything less than excellence. Landing a manual after pulling off a grind or trick allows players to keep a combo going, allowing you to string together a series of maneuvers into a single, colossal trick. It may sound like a small difference, but it makes for a world of difference. Outside of the sleek, new art direction, the most apparent distinction at work here is the manual, a trick where skateboarders balance on their back wheels while moving forward. This feels like the game Roll7 always wanted to make. After spending many hours comparing the games side by side, I can confidently say OlliOlli 2 is a great leap forward. OlliOlli 2 seems nearly identical to its predecessor, or that was my initial impression, at least. MSRP: $14.99 (Cross-Buy, Free at launch via PS Plus) OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood (PS4, PS Vita) Simultaneously accessible and unfathomably intricate, OlliOlli lured players down the rabbit hole, presenting itself as an airy side-scroller just long enough to get its hooks into you before quickly giving way to something far weightier and more profound.Īnd now it’s been topped in virtually every conceivable way with an unexpected sequel, OlliOlli 2. It stripped away any traces of excess, resulting in an experience focused on eliciting trancelike states and a never-ending pursuit of high scores. A year ago, the minimalist skateboarding game materialized out of nowhere, deconstructing the genre and distilling its essence down the barest essentials. Legendary Soundtrack: Once again, the crate diggers at Roll7 have scoured the airwaves for a shimmering extended soundtrack, including, Cid Rim, Lone, Faulty DL, Submerse and Mike Slott.OlliOlli was a pleasant surprise. Local Multiplayer Mode: OlliOlli2 introduces a gnarly new local multiplayer mode – Combo Rush, a split-screen four-player party mode with four unique game modes. New Worlds and Levels: Five new worlds, 50 new Amateur and Pro Levels and 250 new Challenges to tear through, along with the return of the much loved Daily Grind, Spots Mode and RAD Mode. Further, OlliOlli2’s combo system has been expanded with the joy of manuals, reverts, revert manuals and grind switching giving you more control and expression than ever before.Įxpanded Bag of Tricks: The hallowed ‘Tricktionary’ also expands with new specials including 540 Shove-its, Anti-Casper Flips and Darkslides. Revamped Paths and Combos: The sequel boasts all new ramps and epic hills allowing for monster air and multi-route levels. The iconic skater is going all green-screen with a stunning new look, plucking you from the street and dropping you squarely in the middle of the big screen’s most bodacious cinematic locations. Drop in to Olliwood and prepare for finger-flippin’ mayhem in this follow up to cult skateboarding smash OlliOlli. The nature of Hex is that there will be cards that break all these basic rules - giving you more mana or putting resources into play from your deck - which is where the fun begins. You can only play one resource a turn and your mana refreshes at the start of each of your turns. In general, cards have a threshold that must be met to be cast - so for example a card may have a cost of five and a red threshold of two, meaning at the most basic level you must have played five resources, two of which were red, to cast it. In turn these resources govern what types of cards can be played, each providing a colour threshold along with its mana. In Hex, decks are sixty cards, with around a quarter dedicated to resources that are played for free and increase your total mana pool, allowing you to cast more powerful spells. It's similar enough to the genre's most famous forebear that I feel like I'm already intimately familiar with its basic makeup, although it's from an unrelated design team who obviously follow different philosophies that result from Hex's purely digital nature. I've been a Magic: The Gathering player for the last five years and so Hex is a strange game to write about. Here's some thoughts after a few hours of play. While its single player campaign and the MMO portion's dungeons, raids and guilds are yet to materialise, Hex is onto a third set release of cards in a free to play model. Long before Hearthstone made it clear that digital cards were going to be a successful market, the gaming public pitched in two million dollars and change for the MMO/TCG hybrid. Hex: Shards of Fate was kickstarted successfully in mid-2013, hot on the cardboard-heels of developer Cryptozoic's final set of the physical WoW TCG. |
